FLOWERS & YARN
Can beginners make this bag?
Ambitious beginners can try it.
The flower is beginner-friendly; assembly requires patience.
My petals aren’t puffy — what can I do?
Ensure you’re using double yarn and pull each loop slightly higher during puff stitches.
My flowers look smaller/larger than yours. Is that okay?
Yes. Flower size varies by yarn, tension, and hook.
What matters is that your flowers match each other in size.
My flowers vary in size — is this normal?
Yes. As long as they are consistent within your own project, variation is completely fine.
Do I need to block the flowers?
No. Blocking can flatten the puff petals — keep them as they are.
Can I use different yarn types?
Cotton or cotton–acrylic blends work best. Wool can stretch over time.
Avoid very fuzzy or slippery yarns.
ASSEMBLY & STRUCTURE
The bag shape doesn’t look as round. Did I assemble it wrong?
The shape rounds naturally once:
- the strap is attached
- the lining is in place
- everything is slightly adjusted by hand
If not, try changing the petal connections.
My knots are loosening — how do I fix this?
Use double or triple knots, trim ends short, and if you want extra security, weave the ends into the flower backs.
Can I resize the bag?
Yes. Add or remove flowers in the layout to change size.
Can I make the strap longer?
Yes. Add more strap flowers and extend the strap lining accordingly.
How long does the bag take to make?
Flowers: 10–15 minutes each
Assembly + lining: 3–4 hours
Total: ~12–15 hours
How much weight can the Bloom Bag hold?
Light to medium items: phone, keys, wallet.
Avoid heavy objects that may stretch the strap.
Will the flowers fray over time?
If knots are secure and ends are trimmed, they hold up well. Also, the lining helps to hold everything in place.
LINING & STABILITY
My lining is too small/big — what now?
Not always:
- Slightly too big → fold top inward
- Slightly too small → stretch gently
- Very different → adjust stitches or rows
How do I know if my lining size is correct?
Measure frequently while crocheting — tension varies from maker to maker.
My strap feels too stretchy. Why?
The strap lining must be stretched to its maximum length before sewing it in.
Can I use fabric instead of crocheting the lining?
Yes — cotton, canvas, or denim works well for extra stability.
How do I sew the lining invisibly?
Attach the lining only through the back of flower centers or petal bases — never the front.
My bag sags when filled. How do I fix it?
Usually caused by:
- lining too short
- lining not stretched fully
- strap lining too soft
Check both linings and adjust.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The strap twists while attaching the lining.
Lay the strap flat, align the lining fully, and sew down one side at a time.
The bag sags when filled.
Usually caused by a too-short or unstretched lining.
Re-check the strap and bag lining lengths.
Can I fix or replace a damaged flower later?
Yes — simply cut the knots around the flower, make a new one, and reattach it.
My flowers don’t all look identical. Is that a problem?
No. Slight variation is normal and adds to the handmade charm.
My bag feels uneven after assembly. Why?
Adjust knots gently and shape the bag by hand once the lining is inside. Also, this is a handmade piece, which is fine if there are some imperfections.
A petal or knot came loose — how do I repair it?
Re-knot the area securely and weave in the tail.
If needed, replace the flower.
The strap lining won’t sit smoothly.
Stretch it fully, until it is not possible to stretch anymore and sew slowly along one side, then the other.
My lining puckers after sewing. How do I fix it?
Remove a few stitches and resew slowly — pulling the lining slightly upward as you stitch helps prevent puckering.
